Discover Diocletian’s Split, the second-largest city in Croatia, situated approximately 3 hours drive from Dubrovnik!
Your journey, filled with stunning views, begins with a scenic drive along the Adriatic coast. Once in Split, you’ll have the opportunity to explore this historical city at your own pace. The centerpiece of Split is the remarkable Diocletian’s Palace, one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world, constructed at the turn of the 3rd to the 4th century AD. Wander through the palace, where ancient stone walls and lively cafes coexist in perfect harmony.
Be sure to visit Peristyle Square, the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, and the ancient cellars that have stood the test of time. Stroll along the Riva, Split’s bustling waterfront promenade, where you can enjoy the sea breeze and perhaps indulge in a coffee or light lunch at one of the many open-air cafes. If you’re craving local flavors, Split offers an array of excellent dining options.
After a day of exploring, sit back and relax on the return drive to Dubrovnik, bringing lasting memories of Split’s captivating blend of history and contemporary charm.
For a more immersive experience, we recommend exploring Split with a local guide.
Diocletian, a Roman emperor, commissioned the palace as his retirement residence in what is now the heart of Split. Due to its outstanding historical and architectural significance and as one of the best-preserved Roman imperial complexes that has shaped the development of Split over the centuries, Diocletian’s Palace was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
